If you study short-form video, the script is the part worth keeping. This skill turns links into a swipe file of full transcripts you can search, compare and learn from.

What it does

Paste links to Instagram Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts, YouTube videos or X videos. It downloads the audio, transcribes it, and appends each transcript to one markdown file with the link, the date, where it came from, and any note you added.

  • Unedited: the full spoken script in order, never summarised or "improved."
  • No duplicates: it matches on the video's ID, so the same reel shared twice is saved once.
  • Honest about failures: videos with no speech or a failed download are listed separately, never filled in from the caption.
  • Slack friendly: if you save links to a Slack channel and have the Slack connector, it can read them from there and react 🎧 to each message once saved.

How it works

A small Python script uses yt-dlp to fetch the audio and OpenAI's open-source Whisper model to transcribe it on your own machine. There's no API key and no per-minute cost. Larger Whisper models are more accurate and slower.

Try it

  • "Transcribe these: [links]"
  • "Add these reels to my swipe file"
  • "Transcribe the links in #inspo"

Save transcripts for study, not to republish someone else's words.

Install

In Claude Code, copy the folder into your skills directory:

TERMINAL / COPY-PASTE
git clone https://github.com/ecemkaraman/ai-skills.git
cp -r ai-skills/skills/video-transcriber ~/.claude/skills/

You also need ffmpeg (brew install ffmpeg on a Mac) and pip install -r requirements.txt from the skill folder. This one runs Python scripts on your machine, so it works best in Claude Code.
